Teaser: Kojima & Peele’s Horror Project “OD”

Kojima Productions

Back in late 2023, Microsoft and Kojima Productions announced “OD,” a new collaboration between gaming icon Hideo Kojima (“Metal Gear Solid,” “Death Stranding”) and filmmaker Jordan Peele (“Nope,” “Get Out”).

Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schaffer, and Udo Kier star in the project, which Kojima says mixes media styles: “OD is a game, don’t get me wrong, but it’s at the same time a movie, but at the same time a new form of media.”

Made in partnership with Xbox Game Studios, it marks a return to horror for Kojima, whose short “Silent Hills” game teaser, titled “P.T.,” remains a legendary short video game over a decade later.

Now, a new teaser trailer for the work has been released, which blends first-person game engine footage, third-person photorealistic facial animation using the Unreal Engine’s Metahuman Creator, and remarkable sound design to deliver a decidedly creepy clip that very much feels akin to “P.T”.

All that’s revealed about the story comes from text which is mostly obscured: “Ten years since the [redacted] horror [redacted], [redacted]. The cursed [redacted] have once again [redacted] into the forbidden.”

The reveal came during the Kojima Productions 10th anniversary livestream a few hours ago. Kojima directs the project, the third for his company following the two “Death Stranding” games. Further details will be forthcoming sometime in the near future but no word as yet when the game will release.
