“Clayface” Set Pics Tease Joker, Robin & More

Warner Bros. Discovery

Over the past two weeks, photos have been flooding all over social media of early filming on the “Clayface” movie, the body horror thriller which is set within the DC Universe.

As previously indicated, the film is essentially a standalone horror thriller penned by Mike Flanagan and partly inspired by the 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” two-part episode ‘Feat of Clay’. Gunn reaffirmed it’s part of the DCU this week during his interview with Howard Stern.

Tom Rhys Harries stars in the film as Matt Hagen/Clayface with Naomi Ackie and Max Minghella in small supporting roles. Set photos have also revealed Eddie Marsan has a role, along with various actors people are struggling to identify.

More revealing have been a bunch of photos of props and set decorations, which suggest this could be an early 2000s period piece, and filled with tons of easter eggs.

References have been spotted on the set include The Flying Graysons (Dick Grayson’s family), The Joker, a ‘Penguin man’ in a freak show, Sionis Industries (Black Mask), Black Canary, Zatanna, and more.

Someone posted a photo with what looked to be the Robert Pattinson Batman symbol on it, though the photo itself seemed suspicious. Gunn shot that one down on social media, saying “I have a hard time believing the bat was put there by the art department” and such a placement “never came across my desk”.

Filming on the James Watkins-directed project is expected to continue through much of the rest of the year ahead of a release next Fall.
