Early Teaser: “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie”

It’s official, Nintendo, Universal Pictures and Ilumination have announced that “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” will be the official title for the sequel to 2023’s “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”.

That film debuted in April 2023 and went on to gross $1.361 billion worldwide. It became the second-highest-grossing film of 2023, the third-highest-grossing animated film of all time, and the eighteenth-highest-grossing film of all time.

The announcement was made during part of a Nintendo Direct presentation this morning, which included a brief teaser that revealed the title after following a butterfly flying over Peach’s palace and up into space.


Chris Pratt (Mario), Charlie Day (Luigi), Anya Taylor-Joy (Princess Peach), Jack Black (Bowser), Keegan-Michael Key (Toad), Kevin Michael Richardson (Kamek) are all confirmed to be returning for the new film which will be the centerpiece of the Mario character’s 40th anniversary.

Producer and Illumination chief Chris Meledandri confirmed that the “Super Mario Galaxy” games story will serve as the core for the new film’s story, but adds there’ll be plenty of “surprises for fans of every Mario era”.

Also confirmed to be returning are Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic as directors and Brian Tyler handling the score, which will blend musical themes from the games.
