Amazon Prime Video has premiered a brief featurette for the currently in production third season of its “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” series.
The new run began production back in May at Shepperton Studios in the UK and runs throughout the rest of the year.
The 26-second clip offers fans a behind-the-scenes glimpse at Narsil, the sword of the Faithful, being wielded by Elendil (Lloyd Owen). This is the famed sword that’s broken when Elendil’s son Isildur cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand and is later reforged for Aragorn.
The new season is rumored to jump forward in time by several years and during the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron. In this time, the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to conquer all Middle-earth.
Reviews from both critics and audiences for the series have been positive yet also decidedly underwhelming, not great for the most expensive TV series to ever be produced. The series has long been planned as a five-season saga.
In the second season, Amazon claims the show was watched by 40 million viewers globally in its first 11 days of release. By February 2025, it had become Prime Video’s most-watched returning season by number of hours watched.
