Celebrated filmmaker Lulu Wang (“The Farewell,” “Expats,” “Posthumous”) is returning and is set to direct a live-action film adaptation of Katie Kitamura’s psychological thriller novel “Audition”.
Lucy Liu and Charles Melton are attached to star in the story which follows a famous actress whose upscale New York lifestyle is disrupted when a young man appears, claiming to be her long-lost son.
Wang is co-writing the feature with Martyna Majok which will be produced by both Barack and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground Productions and famed animation studio LAIKA (“Coraline,” “ParaNorman”).
Vinnie Malhotra, Anikah McLaren, Travis Knight and Matt Levin, and Wang are producers.
McLaren says in a statement the work is “a masterfully crafted psychological thriller that explores the complex layers of identity and performance” and a “compelling narrative about family, deception and self-discovery.”
This marks the first of several live-action films in the work from Oregon-based LAIKA.
