Universal Pictures has now released the second trailer for the sequel to filmmaker Scott Derrickson’s critically acclaimed 2022 horror thriller “The Black Phone”.
Mason Thames starred in the first film, a young teenager abducted by a child killer (Ethan Hawke) in a suburban neighborhood and locked in a soundproof basement.
He begins to get unearthly calls on a disconnected rotary phone from his deranged captor’s previous victims, all trying to help him to figure out a way to escape before he becomes the next one.
In the sequel Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone and seeing disturbing visions of three boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake.
Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history.
Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death and more significant to them than either could imagine.
Derrickson is directing, producing and co-writing the follow-up with C. Robert Cargill, while Jason Blum is also producing.
Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora are all confirmed to be returning as well while Demian Bichir is joining them.
“The Black Phone 2” opens in cinemas on October 17th.
