Producers Sam Raimi and Roy Lee are teaming up for a remake of 1978 cult horror hit “Magic” at Lionsgate.
Anthony Hopkins starred in the original as Corky, a magician who reaches fame alongside his obnoxious ventriloquist’s dummy called ‘Fats’.
On the verge of signing a network deal for his own show, but scared to reveal his precarious mental state, the magician takes off for the Catskills.
Once there he tries to reconnect with a high school love, while Fats begins to murderously take charge of the situation. Ann-Margret and Burgess Meredith also starred in the film which was directed by Richard Attenborough and penned by William Goldman.
“Friday the 13th” remake and “Freddy vs. Jason” writers Mark Swift and Damian Shannon will pen the script for the new version which Zainab Azizi, Chris Hammond and Tim Sullivan will also produce.
The project took a long time to assemble due to rights issues that have now been finally worked out.
