Will Smith Signs Major Deal With Paramount

Sony Pictures

Will Smith and his Westbrook production company have signed a major first-look deal with Paramount Pictures.

Under the deal, Westbrook will set up projects at the studio with a focus on developing four-quadrant theatrical movies.

An emphasis will be put on projects based on IP and franchises, and ones that can be developed as starring vehicles for the Oscar winner.

One of the first will be “Sugar Bandits” based on Chuck Hogan’s “Devils in Exile” book. That follows a down-and-out Iraqi war veteran who intercepts drug deals for profit.

Another is titled “Rabbit Hole” and hails from “Dune” writer Jon Spaihts.

It marks the latest deal David Ellison’s new Paramount has signed since the merger with Skydance and comes hot on the heels of a deal with Activision to adapt “Call of Duty”.
