Oscar winner Nicolas Cage is in talks to star in the upcoming fifth season of HBO‘s Emmy-winning crime anthology series “True Detective”.

Issa Lopez returns as writer-showrunner following a successful return to form for the series with the fourth season “True Detective: Night Country” starring Jodie Foster and Kali Reis.

According to Deadline, Cage is in talks for the lead role of Henry Logan, a New York detective on the case at the center of the new season.

The case itself will be set in the Jamaica Bay region of New York. Cage has reportedly been circling the part for a while but it’s not clear yet if the deal will close.

Filming on the new run is slated to begin next year for a 2027 release on the premium cabler. Lopez previously teased there will be connections in the new season between what happened in ‘Night Country’ and what happens here – but otherwise it’s “new story, new characters, everything”.

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson headlined the original installment, followed by Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch for the second while Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff headlined the third.
