Sky has released first-look photos of Will Sharpe and Paul Bettany in the new limited series take on Peter Shaffer’s award-winning stage play “Amadeus”.
This reimagining of the work hails from “Black Doves” and “Giri/Haji” creator/writer Joe Barton and will once again explore the mythic rivalry in 18th-century Vienna between Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Sharpe) and Antonio Salieri (Bettany), along with the involvement of the fiery Constanze Weber (Gabrielle Creevy).
Salieri’s envy turns vengeful as he uses any means necessary to thwart Mozart and protect his position in the establishment. Barton is writing the series with Julian Farino and Alice Seabright directing.
John Griffin, Megan Spanjian, Michael Jackson and Stephen Wright executive produce the series, which was shot last Spring in Hungary.
It comes nearly forty years after filmmaker Milos Forman adapted the play into the highly acclaimed 1984 feature which swept the Oscars and won Best Picture and a Best Actor nod for Sharpe’s “White Lotus” co-star F. Murray Abraham as Salieri.
The new “Amadeus” will launch on Sky in the UK later this year.
