With Zach Cregger’s “Weapons” now out in cinemas, attention is turning to what’s next for him following the rave reception to the film.
The “Barbarian” director already has a new “Resident Evil” film lined up to shoot, that project is set to film in Prague this Fall. That will be followed by a top secret sci-fi film he also has in the works.
But there’s one other film he has teased – a work based on DC Comics, one which he penned several years back and goes by the name “Henchmen,” and is a film he has dubbed the personal favourite of all the scripts he’s ever written.
Now, THR has offered more details on the movie, saying it follows a low-level henchman in the underworld of Gotham City.
Said henchman manages to gain notoriety after managing to incapacitate Batman through a stroke of luck. According to the report, The Dark Knight could appear briefly in the movie, while Harley Quinn and Joker are in the project as well.
In essence, it sounds like a feature film spin on “The Man Who Killed Batman” episode of the classic 1990s series “Batman: The Animated Series,” much in the same way the Mike Flanagan-penned “Clayface” movie is a big ol’ tribute to the “Feat of Clay” two-part episode from the show.
Cregger says he has not yet pitched it to DC Studios, though the company is said to be aware of his interest. There are complications, though, with DC having yet to cast a new Batman for the DC Universe, and dealing with Robert Pattinson’s Batman still being around and out there in “The Batman Part II”, which will film in the Spring.
The trade also has details on the “Resident Evil” film which reportedly takes inspiration from the games rather than previous movies, and is dubbed a “relatively contained thriller” following a protagonist on a desperate mission.
