Former Black Sabbath front man Ozzy Osbourne, who, along with his family, was the subject of hit reality TV series “The Osbournes”, has died. He was 76.

In a statement from his family, they say: “It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning. He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time.”

Osbourne was twice inducted to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and considered a major trailblazer in the world of heavy metal. Black Sabbath, on the whole, are considered the “Beatles of heavy metal” according to some music critics.

Sabbath ultimately sacked Osbourne in 1979 for his legendary excesses. Many rock bands and performing artists from Metallica to Aerosmith to Elton John have all paid tribute to the singer in the hours since his death was announced.

Osbourne revealed in 2020 that he had Parkinson’s disease after suffering a fall which led to him having neck surgery.

The original Sabbath line-up reunited for the first time in 20 years in Birmingham in July for what Osborne said would be (and was) his final concert.
