“Anthem” Servers To Shutdown In January

EA

EA has announced that it will shut down the servers for BioWare’s live-service game “Anthem” on January 12th 2026.

As of today, in-game currency has been pulled from the game’s shop with no further purchases allowed.

The game is also being removed from EA Play on August 15th, blocking access at that time for anyone using a subscription rather than owning the game. Owners will lose access on the January date.

With the game being an always-online, multiplayer title – the shutdown renders it effectively unplayable, even though the experience can largely be played solo.

EA indicates the decision was made with “careful consideration” and they thanked fans for their support in a statement.

The news also brings to a close the saga around the game, the high-profile title launching in early 2019 to poor reviews and a disastrous start with players quickly exiting the game and the title being essentially abandoned by the studio – despite fans still playing it.

The shutdown will reportedly not impact the studio internally, as development work had already ceased.
