“Comeback” Renewed, “Grosse Point” Axed

HBO

HBO has renewed its Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King-created comedy series “The Comeback” for a third and apparently final season. The order comes twenty years after the first season aired back in 2005, while the second season screened in 2014. The third will arrive in 2026.

Kudrow returns as mid-range sitcom actress Valerie Cherish alongside Damian Young as her husband Mark, Dan Bucatinsky as her publicist, and Laura Silverman as reality producer Jane. The late Robert Michael Morris played Val’s hair stylist, Mickey, in the earlier seasons.

The order follows in the wake of a rush of renewal announcements in recent days such as Netflix’s Josh Duhamel-led “Ransom Canyon” and Japanese manga-inspired “Bet” both scoring second seasons.

The news hasn’t been so good for NBC’s “Grosse Pointe Garden Society” which has been cancelled by the network after just one season.

That show followed four members of a suburban garden club who find their lives intertwined by scandal, mischief and a shared secret – a murder no one wants to talk about.

Melissa Fumero, Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, AnnaSophia Robb, Matthew Davis, Alexander Hodge, Nancy Travis, and Felix Wolfe co-starred in the show which debuted to decidedly mixed reviews and low ratings.
