Poster: Lord & Miller’s “Project Hail Mary”

Universal Pictures

Amazon MGM Studios has premiered the first poster from “Project Hail Mary,” a new film adaptation of the novel of the same name by “The Martian” author Andy Weir.

Having penned Ridley Scott’s film adaptation of “The Martian”, Drew Goddard returns as screenwriter here. This time, the film is being produced and directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the “21 Jump Street” and “The Lego Movie” helmers who have more recently been steering the animated “Spider-Verse” franchise as producers.

In “Project Hail Mary,” Ryan Gosling stars as astronaut Ryland Grace who awakens on a spacecraft with no memory of himself or his mission. He slowly deduces he is the sole survivor of a crew sent to the Tau Ceti solar system in search of a solution to a catastrophic event on Earth.

In his search for answers, Grace must rely on his vast array of scientific knowledge, sheer ingenuity, and human will – but he may not have to search alone. Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub co-star in the film.

This marks one of four titles which was just announced as the initial slate under a new multi-year partnership deal between Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures. Sony will handle the release of these titles in all international territories.

The list includes this film, Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt” starring Julia Roberts and Andrew Garfield, Timur Bekmambetov’s “Mercy” starring Chris Pratt, and the heist thriller “Crime 101” starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Halle Berry.

“Project Hail Mary” is set to open in cinemas on March 20th 2026. The first trailer is expected to go online on Monday.
