A “S.W.A.T.” Spin-Off Is In The Works

CBS

Sony Pictures Television has given the green light to “S.W.A.T. Exiles,” a spinoff of the CBS crime procedural series “S.W.A.T.” which aired its series finale two days ago after eight seasons.

That show’s leading man Shemar Moore will reprise his role as Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson here as he works with a team of young recruits.

The new series is set after a high-profile mission goes sideways. Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson is pulled out of forced retirement to lead a last-chance, experimental SWAT unit made up of untested, unpredictable young recruits.

Hondo must bridge a generational divide, navigate clashing personalities, and turn a squad of outsiders into a team capable of protecting the city and saving the program that made him who he is.

Sony has ordered ten episodes of ‘Exiles’, which aims to film this summer in Los Angeles where a good chunk of the “S.W.A.T.” crew will be back and involved.

Announced last night at its annual L.A. Screenings event, Sony will distribute the series worldwide and shop it to potential buyers in the near future. Shemar Moore, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty and James Scura will executive produce.

Jason Ning (“The Brothers Sun,” “Mrs. Davis”) will serve as showrunner on the spin-off under his recently renewed overall deal with Sony. Ning remains attached to the in-development “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” series at Amazon Prime Video.

CBS famously cancelled “S.W.A.T.” after its sixth season in 2023, reversed and renewed it for a ‘final’ seventh season, then CBS changed its mind again and ordered an eighth season that definitively ends it.
