Gunn Sets DC’s Dual Robin Film “Dynamic Duo”

Warner Bros. Pictures

DC Studios co-chief James Gunn has announced “Dynamic Duo,” a new theatrical release animated film being produced by Warner Bros Pictures Animation.

The project follows the early days of Dick Grayson and Jason Todd, aka the Robins, who at this point in time are orphan thieves who name themselves the ‘dynamic duo’. It marks the first joint project between DC Studios and WBPA and is being scripted by Matthew Aldrich.

A new animation studio out of New Orleans named Swaybox, and that studio’s husband-and-wife creators Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson, are handling the animation. Mintz, who was a contributing writer on the Emmy-winning “Lost Ollie”, will direct.

Swaybox uses a technology known as ‘Momo animation,’ which is a cross between CGI animation, practical elements of stop-motion, and live-action real-time performance.

This results in “long-form storytelling billed as visually breathtaking, dynamically expressive and more human.” Gunn, Peter Safran, Andersson, and Matt Reeves produce.

Reeves says in a statement: “I have wanted to make a film with Arthur and Swaybox for many years, and for that film to be Dynamic Duo, an incredibly special and unique Batman and Robin story for families, is a dream.”

The film won’t be connected to Reeves’ “The Batman” universe.
