The fifth season of Netflix’s popular sudser “Virgin River” has finally broken the three-month stranglehold of “Suits” to take the top spot on the Nielsen streaming charts.
The series ranked above “Suits” for the week of September 11th-17th, its first full week after its release on September 7th. The show saw a whopping 2.05 billion minutes viewed as “Suits” slipped nearly 20% to 1.9 billion minutes and second overall.
Pixar’s “Elemental” (1.73 billion minutes) came in third followed by Australian animated favorite “Bluey” (835 million) along with procedurals “Grey’s Anatomy” (834 million) and “SWAT” (798 million).
Netflix dominated the streaming originals list with “Virgin River” in first, German thriller series “Dear Child” (720 million) in second and “One Piece” (663 million) in third. Disney’s “Ahsoka” (577 million), Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” (456 million) and Amazon’s “The Wheel of Time” (423 million) came in next.
The return of “The Morning Show” also made the list in eighth place with 350 million minutes viewed. That marks only the third Apple TV+ series to make the streaming rankings following “Ted Lasso” and the Idris Elba-led “Hijack”.
Prime Video’s documentary “Kelce” made the movie list, drawing 179 million minutes of viewing. The streamer says it was the most watched documentary feature ever on the platform in the United States.
