First-day presales figures from three top exhibitors in the United States are in for the upcoming “Renaissance: A Film by Beyonce” concert movie.
According to Deadline, the figures are estimated to be at least $6-7 milliion – around on par with “Avatar: The Way of Water” and “Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3”.
Those figures do NOT come from the film’s distributor AMC Theaters who haven’t released an official number as yet – a number that will likely be higher.
Nonetheless, the film won’t be the juggernaut that is “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour” with that film outselling Beyonce 7-to-1 on day one on ticketing service Fandango.
That film ultimately had official first-day presales of $37 million with $26 million coming from AMC itself. At present it’s looking for an opening weekend debut above $100 million.
Early estimates for “Renaissance” suggest a potential $20+ million opening which is more in-line with most concert movies including “Michael Jackson’s This Is It” ($23.2 million) and “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” ($29.5 million).
News about the film’s release leaked over the weekend and was only made official on late Sunday night when the post-Thanksgiving release date was announced along with the $22 ticket price.
