Jamie Lee Curtis Wants In On “One Piece”

Universal Pictures, Toei Animation

Jamie Lee Curtis is a noted fan of the “One Piece” anime, and now she’s pledged to lobby for a key role in the upcoming season – once the strikes are over.

For a while now there’s been a growing push for the Oscar winner to score a role in the Netflix live-action series. In videos on YouTube of panels and interviews, she’s spoken about how Tony Tony Chopper is her favorite character, and she would love to play Nico Robin.

Both characters are expected to make their introduction in the live-action show’s second season, along with Chopper’s mentor Dr. Kureha, a role that Curtis already suggested she’s perfect for (and matches physically).

As the push for her to take on the role grows, Curtis published an Instagram post today saying: “ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in @onepiecenetflix”

Two hours later, she drew a response from showrunner Matt Owens who said: “Mommy dearest, that’s why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let’s talk!”

In other words, the role is Curtis’ to lose. A deal still needs to be negotiated but hopefully it means it’ll happen. The second season of the series, which is currently topping Netflix charts, is already written and is expected to go into production after the strikes are over.
