Star Wars, Marvel, One Piece Top Fan Study

“Star Wars” has beaten out Marvel in a major new survey of U.S. and UK entertainment fans by data firm Fandom which owns outlets like GameSpot, Metacritic, TV Guide, Screen Junkies and more.

Their Inside Fandom study surveyed 5,000 fans along with their own first-party day from this year which assesses the impact of franchises in entertainment and gaming.

The result is a list of 25 franchises across film, TV and gaming that shows a distinct preference for established universes as 72% of respondees are more likely to try out a franchise extension than a brand new IP.

The list sees “Star Wars” on top with a perfect score of 100, whilst “The Witcher” and “The Walking Dead” are tied at the bottom of this Top 25 with 48 each.

Marvel was second with 87, anime and now live-action franchise “One Piece” came in third with 72, game series “The Elder Scrolls” was fourth with 71, “Harry Potter” was fifth with 69, “Barbie” was sixth with 66, “Yellowstone” was seventh with 64, “The Last of Us” was eighth with 63, “Fallout” and Disney tied for ninth with 62.

The main rivals of the two top brands, namely “Star Trek” and DC, were down in 19th and 17th place with both scoring 52. Other titles making the mid-lower end of the list include “John Wick,” “Zelda,” “Grand Theft Auto,” “Pokemon,” “Spongebob Squarepants,” “Resident Evil,” “Elden Ring” and “Final Fantasy”.
