Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” has now passed the $900 million mark worldwide, with the movie hitting the $903 million global mark on Friday, and the total expected to hit $912 million by the end of Sunday.
By that point, it will become the highest-grossing biopic ever at the global box office, beating out the Freddie Mercury biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody”.
“Oppenheimer” is also expected to reach $593 million overseas through Sunday – making it the biggest Nolan film of all time at the international box office.
The film is the third highest-grossing film of the year both worldwide and overseas – behind only “Barbie” and “The Super Mario Bros Movie”. It’s also Nolan’s third-biggest film ever worldwide behind only his last two “The Dark Knight” films.
The film has helped push Universal to cross the $4 billion mark at the global box office. It’s only the second time a studio has hit that mark in 2023, the third time any studio has done so since 2019, and the fourth time Universal has done so – the last time being 2018.
Worldwide, Universal has released three of the top five films this year with “Oppenheimer” now being its biggest non-franchise film of all time.
