Global Box-Office Scared By “The Nun II”

Warner Bros. Pictures

“The Nun II” has scared up a storm at the global box-office this weekend. “The Conjuring” spin-off sequel pulled in a global $85.3 million launch with $32.6 million domestically and $52.7 million overseas.

That overseas start is the second biggest opening for the Conjuring Universe, behind only the first “The Nun” film and considerably above many other horror launches this year.

Another big winner this weekend was Shah Rukh Khan’s new action thriller film “Jawan” which pulled in $57 million worldwide for the three-day and $64.4 million in the four days since its debut – the highest four-day global debut ever for a Hindi movie.

Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” is set to pass the $900 million worldwide mark this week and stands at $891 million as of end of Sunday. The film is still going strong in China where it just had its second weekend and added $9.6 million from that market alone.

“The Equalizer 3” topped the $100 million worldwide mark in its second weekend, taking in $107.7 million, whilst domestically it pulled in $12.1 million for a second place spot (a 67% drop). “Barbie” meanwhile hit $620.5 million domestically and $1.403 billion worldwide. It is expected to pass “Avengers: Age of Ultron” this week.

Also still in play are “Gran Turismo: Based on a True Story” which has so far managed $93.3 million worldwide, so is “Blue Beetle” which is up to $114 million worldwide, “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem” is at $161 million worldwide, and “Meg 2: The Trench” which has hit a pretty astonishing $384.9 million worldwide.
