Dumb Money
Sony Pictures has moved up the wide release of the Paul Dano-led film “Dumb Money” about the GameStop stock shorting incident.
What was to be a four-step platform release starting with a limited run on September 15th before expanding each week to a wide release on October 6th. It is now going earlier with a larger moderate release on September 22nd before a wide release on September 29th. [Source: Coming Soon]
Phantom of the Opera
Russian playwright and filmmaker Kirill Serebrennikov (“Petrov’s Flu,” “Leto”) will reportedly create and direct a sensual, gothic six-part miniseries adaptation of Gaston Leroux’s iconic novel “The Phantom of the Opera”.
Shot in English, the psychological thriller follows up-and-coming artist, Christine Daae, who becomes the obsession of a disfigured musical genius, a psychopathic monster haunting the Paris Opera House. The tale unfolds from her point of view. [Source: Variety]
TV Deals
Warner Bros. Television has suspended its overall producing deals with multiple major producers including Greg Berlanti, Bill Lawrence, John Wells, Chuck Lorre, Mindy Kaling, and J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot production company.
Some first-look and overall deals were halted back in May when the writer’s strike kicked off, but with almost all production effectively shut down, the deal suspensions are now taking place. [Source: Variety]
Mortal Kombat 1
NetherRealm Studios has released a new trailer for “Mortal Kombat 1” which confirms Megan Fox’s role as the vampiric Nitara in the game along with her talking about said part.
The character first appeared in the fifth main installment in the series, “Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance,” alongside other new characters like Bo’ Rai Cho, Kenshi, Frost and Hsu Hao. “Mortal Kombat 1” is set to release on September 19th for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
