Craig Mazin Teases Sixth “Pirates” Script

Disney

Between “Chernobyl” and “The Last of Us,” Craig Mazin is one of the most in-demand writers/producers out there these days.

He did an interview with The Los Angeles Times the other week which is resurfacing this weekend. In said interview, he confirmed he worked on a new sixth “Pirates of the Caribbean” instalment, which has him teaming with Ted Elliot who co-wrote the first four of the five films.

Talking about where that project stands, he says: “We pitched it and thought there’s no way they’re buying it, it’s too weird. And they did! And then he [Elliot] wrote a fantastic script, and the strike happened, and everyone’s waiting around.”

Both Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom have previously expressed interest in returning to the franchise if the script is right but so far there’s been no indication of when such a project could move forward.

Mazin is also receiving an additional writing credit on the script for the upcoming “Dune: Part Two” which he did what sounds like a small polish of the script for.

Mazin re-affirms in the interview he was able to submit one script for the second season of “The Last of Us” before the writer’s strike – the rest of the season he has been writing in his head so when the industrial action does end, they can hit the ground running.
