“Starfield” Scores An 87 On Metacritic

Following an extended period barren of exclusives, the future of Xbox is essentially riding on the success of the sci-fi epic game “Starfield”.

The game marks the first new universe in over 25 years from “Fallout” and “Elder Scrolls” developers Bethesda Game Studios. The next-generation role-playing game is set amongst the stars, which you can “explore with unparalleled freedom as you embark on an epic journey to answer humanity’s greatest mystery.”

The title has been in the works for years and, just before the game officially launches, the reviews are now out. The result is the game, at the time of this article’s writing, has landed on Metacritic with an 87/100 for the Series X version and an 88/100 for the PC version.

That’s not an industry-changing-level score, nor does it put it in the same territory as this year’s “Baldur’s Gate III” or “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” which both scored 96/100.

However, it is on a comparable level to other well-regarded titles this year, such as “Final Fantasy XVI” (87), “Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew” (87), “Sea of Stars” (88) and “Diablo IV” (88).

A common criticism is that it “plays too much like Bethesda’s previous games” and thus is stuck in game design akin to titles a decade old. In addition, its huge scale is a double-edged sword, both drawing praise and criticism.

Thankfully it’s also said to be the company’s most polished game yet, with reports of bugs being fairly minimal. Check out a list of reviews at Metacritic.

“Starfield” is released in stores on September 6th.
