Netflix has released the first trailer and announced a November 17th release date for its star-packed anime series “Scott Pilgrim Takes Off”.
Blending the best elements of both comic creator Bryan Lee O’Malley’s original comics and Edgar Wright’s 2010 live-action film adaptation, the eight-episode American-Canadian-Japanese anime series offers an expanded narrative and new take on the material.
This can be seen in the trailer, which showcases some scenes from the comics that didn’t make the jump in the previous movie, suggesting what we’ll get here will stick closer to the source material.
Wright and O’Malley return as executive producers, with the latter also serving as writer and showrunner alongside executive producer BenDavid Grabinski. Also onboard is animator Abel Góngora directing, whilst the film’s co-writer Michael Bacall also executive produces.
All the cast from the live-action film are returning to voice their characters from Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Scott and Ramona, to Kieran Culkin, Anna Kendrick, Chris Evans, Brie Larson, Brandon Routh, Aubrey Plaza, Jason Schwartzman, Johnny Simmons, Mae Whitman, Ellen Wong, Alison Pill, Mark Webber and more.
Acclaimed anime studio Science SARU is handling the animation for the series, whilst Joseph Trapanese will serve as the composer and Anamanaguchi will provide songs.
