There’s been a metric ton of casting rumors regarding Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four” movie over the months, none of which have panned out in any real way and most sound like speculative BS.

Today though, one has scored a bit more weight as The Hot Mic’s Jeff Sneider is reporting that “Mission: Impossible” alum Vanessa Kirby isn’t just a candidate, but has allegedly been set to play Sue Storm in the “Fantastic Four” film for Marvel Studios.

In addition, he indicates the MCU’s F4 will have Sue Storm as the leader of the team, not Reed Richards. Most of the casting speculation surrounding the film has centered on the Reed Richards role, with Adam Driver and Matt Smith’s names being thrown about.

Sneider says he thinks that role is an open one right now as they’ve been trying to find their ‘Reed’ to no avail thus far. As for other roles, he says Ebon Moss-Bachrach may have a role though it’s not one of the main four and not Galactus. He also says both Johnny Storm and The Thing have been cast but no names yet.

He indicates he had heard Jack Quaid’s name for Johnny Storm, but was unsure of that one – and Quaid himself subsequently squashed the rumor in the bud, saying on Twitter: “Hello everyone. Nope. Not playing Johnny Storm but hey I’m flattered.” Sneider later apologised, said he was mistaken, and it was rather “Stranger Things” alum Joseph Quinn that was up for the role – just not a lock for it like Kirby.

“Avatar: The Way of Water” and Spielberg’s “War of the Worlds” co-writer Josh Friedman was hired to write the script back in late March for the film. It’s unclear how much headway he made into it before the writer’s strike began. Friedman replaced Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.

Director Matt Shakman is attached to helm the F4 relaunch, which is reportedly set to start filming in January ahead of a 2025 release.
