Julian Gerighty, the creative director on Ubisoft‘s recently announced open-world game “Star Wars Outlaws,” has offered some new details about the title.
Speaking with Edge (via GamesRadar), Gerighty spoke about the size of the in-game planets in the title and draws comparisons to another famous Ubisoft franchise:
“It’s a crude analogy, but the size of one planet might be about [equivalent to] two of the zones in Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. It could be two to three zones. But it’s not, you know, this sort of epic ‘the whole of England recreated’ approach.”
He adds the planets in the game will be “manageable in size for both the player and developer”. Gerighty also says that all planets and locations are being ‘handcrafted’ with no procedurally generated planets unlike say “No Man’s Sky” or “Starfield”.
The story will reportedly be set between the events of “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi” and follows outlaw protagonist character Kay Vest. Gerighty says:
“When you think of a scoundrel, your mind goes to Han Solo, it goes to Lando, it goes to Indiana Jones, to James Bond, to Captain Jack Sparrow. It was the fantasy I connected with the most in the original [Star Wars] trilogy – as a kid, I was a much, much bigger fan of Han Solo and Chewbacca than any of the others.”
One change from those guys they’ve made is to make the character “a little bit more relatable” by making him more of a petty thief who “ends up in a situation that’s much bigger than they ever expected”.
“Star Wars Outlaws” is scheduled for release in 2024 for Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC.
