New “Alien,” “Ghostbusters” Films Wrap

20th Century Studios

Production has wrapped on two upcoming sequels to venerated genre franchises of the past few decades. First up, Fede Alvarez’s new “Alien” film has reportedly finished filming reports Collider.

Story details regarding the new film are under wrap. All that’s known is that the cast includes the likes of Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced and David Jonsson, and the project is said to be a standalone instalment not connected to Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” and “Alien: Covenant” narrative or the original four films.

The project is entirely separate from a television series that “Fargo” creator Noah Hawley has in the works for FX, which is set on Earth in the near future and is said to follow a rival to the Weyland-Yutani conglomerate. Filming on that begins later this year.

Meanwhile, Ernie Hudson has confirmed to Screen Rant that the sequel to 2021’s “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” is officially done filming. Hudson reprises his role of original Ghostbuster Winston Zeddemore in the New York-set new film.

Asked about the possibility of the sequel being delayed due to the strikes, Sony is reportedly keen to keep their current release date of December 20th this year:

“Yeah, we finished, the movie is done, it’s wrapped. Obviously, they’re editing and doing whatever else. I’ve heard rumors the end of the year they’ll push for, or maybe spring next year. I never know how the studios are gonna do whatever they do, but the filming is done, which was a little bit difficult with the writers strike and everything going on. So, I know there was a lot of shuffling around in terms of where it was being done, but I’m thankful that we at least got it done in the can, and now, I’m like everybody else, waiting to see what it all looks like.”

Filming on the project was fast, with shooting having only begun on March 20th in the UK, with shooting officially wrapping on June 23rd. Gil Kenan directs.

which also sees Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Mckenna Grace, Paul Rudd, Celeste O’Connor, Kumail Nanjiani, Patton Oswalt, James Acaster, Miko Hughes and Emily Alyn Lind co-starring whilst several original “Ghostbusters” actors return, including Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Annie Potts and William Atherton.
