A photo has been released showcasing a robot character named Jimmy, voiced by Oscar winner Anthony Hopkins, in Zack Snyder’s upcoming two-part sci-fi feature “Rebel Moon”.
The saga is set on a peaceful planet named Veldt. When the sinister Imperium forces arrive to strip this world of its precious resources, the rural community hires a female warrior named Kora (Sofia Boutella) to assemble a group to fight back.
Thus the two films will essentially serve as ‘recruitment’ and ‘war’ movies respectively. Jimmy was one of many droids assembled to aid the Imperium but has been repurposed for manual labor jobs.
Snyder says Jimmy acts as an Arthurian element which grounds some of the more fantastical parts of this space opera: “Jimmy, I see him as a wild card. He’s on a journey of self-discovery… I’m a huge Excalibur fanatic. He’s Lancelot for sure. I was thinking about him, and how Milius (E. Duffy) is Percival.”
Previous images of the character have seen him sporting antlers at some point. The film’s stacked cast includes Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Michiel Huisman, Staz Nair, Ray Fisher, Cleopatra Coleman, Jena Malone, Ed Serkin and more.
The first of the “Rebel Moon” films is slated to arrive on the streamer in December.
