Annapurna Interactive has premiered a reveal trailer for “Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth,” the first video game set in the “Blade Runner” universe in 25 years.
Set between Ridley Scott’s original film and Denis Villeneuve’s “Blade Runner 2049,” it also takes place after “Blade Runner: Black Lotus” and the events of an unprecedented ten-day blackout which hit Los Angeles.
A voice can be heard saying: “Lots of people lost things in the Blackout. I was lucky, I just lost a job. But now they want me back.” The game asks what does a Blade Runner do when there are no Replicants left to hunt?
A device similar to the ‘memory orb’ seen in ‘2049’ is also shown flipping through memories and teasing ‘Project Pyramid’. The game is the first internally developed title from Annapurna and comes from game director Chelsea Hash (“Solar Ash,” “What Remains of Edith Finch”).
The last “Blade Runner” game was a point-and-click adventure game developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive in 1997. That game served as a ‘sidequel’ to the Scott film, telling an original story that runs parallel to the film’s plot and occasionally intersected with it.
“Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth” has no announced release date at this time, but will be available on PC and console. The reveal was a part of the publisher’s online showcase which took place today.
