Netflix and SEGA have unveiled the full trailer for the second season of its animated series “Sonic Prime,” based on the beloved “Sonic the Hedgehog” games.
The first season of eight episodes was released back in December with this eight-episode second season arriving next month. The project will reportedly have twenty-four episodes in total, so a third instalment is on the way.
The first season began with Sonic recklessly shattering the reality-bending Paradox during a battle with Dr. Eggman. This destroys the universe and creates the ‘Shatterverse’, a void where each shard of the prism forms an alternative dimension inhabited by alternative versions of Sonic’s friends.
Sonic ventures into each of the perilous worlds to restore the artifact while combatting a group of Dr. Eggman variants called the Chaos Council that seeks to conquer these new worlds.
In the second season, Sonic and Shadow will work together to find and recover the pieces of the Paradox Prism and try to restore their own Universe while also travelling to New Shatterspaces and confronting new versions of their friends.
The show scored softly positive critics reviews and very positive audience reviews after it was released. It’s the sixth animated television series based on the franchise.
The show is produced by Netflix Animation, WildBrain Studios, Man of Action and Sega Sammy Group’s animation studio Marza Animation Planet.
Deven Mack, Brian Drummond, Ashleigh Ball, Adam Nurada, Shannon Chan-Kent, and Ian Hanlin lend their voices to the series, which returns on July 13th.
