“Sonic 3,” “Minecraft,” “Wicked” Set Dates

Final Trailer Sonic The Hedgehog 2
Paramount PIctures

A new update on the Production List database indicates that filming on Paramount Pictures’ third “Sonic the Hedgehog” film is slated to commence on August 31st in London.

The mid-credits scene in the second film suggests the arrival of Shadow the Hedgehog. Jeff Fowler is attached to return as director with a script by Pat Casey and Josh Miller.

None of the film’s cast has yet to be announced, but the film has already locked in a December 20th 2024 release. It’s also not the only game-to-film project setting a production start date either today.

The same site indicates the live-action “Minecraft” film is slated to begin filming on August 7th 2023 in New Zealand. Jason Momoa and Matt Berry lead the cast of the film adaptation of the Mojang game involving a three-dimensional world of blocks.

The film will be about “the malevolent Ender Dragon who sets out on a path of destruction – prompting a young girl and her group of unlikely adventurers to set out to save the Overworld.”

The start date comes well ahead of the Jared Hess-directed film’s scheduled release date of April 4th 2025.

Finally, in more actual release date news, the two-part musical movie adaptation of the Broadway show “Wicked” has moved up the release date of the second part by a month.

Originally slated for Christmas 2025, “Wicked: Part Two” will now arrive on November 26th 2025 – exactly one year after “Wicked: Part One” hits cinemas on November 27th 2024.
