French animation studio Bobbypills is spearheading an animated TV series adaptation of the 2018 indie roguelike-Metroidvania game “Dead Cells”.
Developer Motion Twin, Bobbypills, and the anime streaming service Animation Digital Network will co-produce the series consisting of roughly ten episodes of around seven minutes each.
The series unfolds on a cursed island that has been racked by a strange plague. The island’s foolish king develops a remedy that ends up turning the population into monstrous creatures.
Meanwhile, prophecies depicting a flame-headed hero who will kill the crazy King begin to appear. Turns out the beheaded hero is real and just wants to be left alone – something that won’t be happening now.
Motion Twin recently announced the game had surpassed 10 million sales to date. Bobbypills certainly has familiarity with the game, having created the game’s various animated trailers.
The show will launch next year theatrically in France before being made available worldwide.
