Nanjiani, Moore Set For “Insidious” Spin-Off

Marvel

Kumail Nanjiani (“Eternals”) and Mandy Moore (“This Is Us”) have reportedly closed deals to star in “Thread: An Insidious Tale,” a spin-off feature in the “Insidious” supernatural film franchise.

The story follows a husband and wife (Nanjiani and Moore) who enlist the help of a spell to travel back in time, such that they can prevent the death of their young daughter. The consequences prove to be severe.

“Moon Knight” and “The Umbrella Academy” co-creator Jeremy Slater will direct from his own script, whilst the usual suspects, including James Wan and Jason Blum, will produce for Screen Gems, Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.

No word as to when this will begin filming. This will mark the sixth overall instalment in the series but is dubbed an “offshoot project” rather than continuing the narrative of the main films.

The first four films in the franchise have grossed over $542 million in total, with the fifth, “Insidious: The Red Door,” arriving on July 7th. That fifth sees the story’s focus return to father and son Josh and Dalton Lambert (Patrick Wilson, Ty Simpkins) who, ten years on, must return once again to the Further.

James Wan helmed the first two, Leigh Whannell the third, Adam Robitel the fourth and Patrick Wilson the fifth.
