“Prince of Persia” Game Remake Starts Over

Ubisoft

Ubisoft have effectively scrapped their remake of “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time” and appear to be starting over according to Polygon.

The remake of arguably the most iconic title of the franchise was first unveiled with a trailer at a Ubisoft Forward event in September 2020. At the time it was quickly lambasted by players for its poor visuals.

That led to multiple delays, and then the project effectively being taken off the board and put back into development. The game was originally put together by Ubisoft Pune in India but after the delays it was put back in the hands of Ubisoft Montreal – who created the original game – a year ago.

According to a new developer Q&A posted by Ubisoft on Wednesday, the project has now been effectively rebooted and is “currently in the conception phase”.

On Twitter, the game’s account confirmed the title won’t be at June’s Ubisoft Forward showcase but adds that it’s “very much alive” even if back to an “early stage” of development.

Producer Jean-Francois Naud says that once Montreal took over the project, they looked at feedback from the community and are finding their own way of delivering the game. He adds players should not expect to hear more about the game this year.

Ubisoft has pushed various titles in the past before, most notably “Skull & Bones” which was first revealed back at E3 2017 and has been completely retooled over the years. It’s expected June’s showcase will finally give us a release date for that one.
