The first season of Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” managed to do an entire episode with only one line of dialogue. The upcoming third season, however, may well be going the opposite approach.

Musical impresarios Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman have confirmed to Variety that they “worked on the next season” of ‘Only Murders’ and “we’re not allowed to say anything more than that, but you could probably do that math” according to Shaiman.

The pair are famed composers for film, television and theater – most notably creating the “Hairspray” musical, films like “Mary Poppins,” and musical numbers within shows such as “Rogers: The Musical” in “Hawkeye”.

Is there going be a musical episode of “Only Murders in the Building” in the third season? We do know the plot of the new season revolves around the death of stage actor Ben Glenroy (Paul Rudd) on the opening night of a Broadway show directed by Oliver (Martin Short) and co-starring Charles (Steve Martin).

Thus the musical numbers could be a part of that show within the series, even though the brief glimpse we got of the show seemed more like a dramatic stage play. Meryl Streep and Jesse Williams co-star in the new season, which commences August 8th on Hulu.

Shaiman and Wittman’s latest Broadway work, a musical adaptation of “Some Like It Hot” which is also produced by Mariah Carey, earned thirteen Tony nominations this year. Shaiman is also set to score Rob Reiner’s upcoming documentary feature about Albert Brooks.
