Netflix has announced the voice cast and revealed the teaser trailer for its upcoming animated series “Skull Island” based within the same monsterverse as the “Godzilla vs. Kong” films.
The series will follow a group of explorers who rescue a woman named Annie from the ocean, only for their heroic efforts to land them shipwrecked on the treacherous and mysterious Skull Island, home to bizarre creatures and terrifying monsters.
Nicolas Cantu will perform the voice role of the protagonist, Charlie, alongside Mae Whitman as Annie, Darren Barnet as Mike, Benjamin Bratt as Cap and Betty Gilpin as Irene. Events will reportedly take place after those in 2017’s “Kong: Skull Island”.
The series is created, written and executive produced by Brian Duffield, with Jacob Robinson, Brad Graeber, Jen Chambers and Thomas Tull also executive producing.
The project hails from Legendary Television who is also behind the upcoming “Tomb Raider” animated series on Netflix which picks up after the events of the 2013 game reboot trilogy.
Powerhouse Animation (“Castlevania”) is handling the animation of “Skull Island” which will debut on June 22nd 2023.
