Trailer: Peacock’s LeBron Film “Shooting Stars”

Peacock

Peacock has released the full trailer for Universal Pictures’ coming-of-age drama “Shooting Stars” starring newcomer Marquis ‘Mookie’ Cook and “Stranger Things” alum Caleb McLaughlin.

Based on LeBron James and Pulitzer Prize winner Buzz Bissinger’s novel of the same name, the 1990s set story begins with a young LeBron James and his three best friends – Lil Dru, Willie McGee, and Sian Cotton – declare themselves the ‘Fab Four’.

This group of friends, under the guidance of coach Dru Joyce, is connected by more than basketball. When the coach at the top basketball school in their district threatens to separate them, they switch to a predominantly white Catholic school to be able to play varsity together.

The community takes this as an insult, but the boys’ dedication to each other is more important than anything else. With their new coach, a disgraced former college coach seeking redemption, along with former rival and new teammate Romeo Travis, they face battles on the court and in real life in their quest to become national champs.

Cook plays James opposite Caleb McLaughlin as Lil Dru, Avery S. Wills Jr. as Willie McGee, Khalil Everage as Sian Cotton, Wood Harris as Dru Joyce, Sterling ‘Scoot’ Henderson as Romeo Travis and Dermot Mulroney.

Emmy nominee Chris Robinson directs from a screenplay written by Frank E. Flowers, Tony Rettenmaier, and Juel Taylor. James, Rachel Winter, Spencer Beighley, Maverick Carter, Jamal Henderson, and Terence Winter produce. “Shooting Stars” will be available for streaming on June 2nd.
