Insomniac Games has confirmed that the upcoming “Marvel’s Spider-Man 2” will remain like its predecessors – it won’t be a co-op game.
During a panel at the SacAnime convention last September, Nadji Jeter – who voices Miles Morales in the games – was asked if the sequel would support co-op.
He replied: “I don’t know if it’s been announced or not, but I think so.” Many months later, speculation about the PS5 game being a co-op title began spreading like wildfire online on Monday.
Asked on Twitter if the game will be a co-op title, Insomniac’s official channel quickly shot down the speculation, saying: “Nope! It is an epic single-player adventure!”.
Reaction to the news across comment boards and Reddit has mostly been one of relief. Whilst indie co-op is doing well, some AAA developers famed for single-player titles have recently switched to poorly received co-op titles like “Redfall” and “Gotham Knights”.
Even the mighty Rocksteady Studios, famed for the “Batman: Arkham” series, has drawn backlash following the reveal of “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League” adopting a generic co-op looter shooter approach.
Earlier this month, Marvel and Insomniac released a free prequel comic for the “Spider-Man 2” game, filling in the blanks between the titles. Sony is expected to showcase more of the game on Wednesday as part of the PlayStation Showcase ahead of Summer Game Fest.
