Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for the animated film “Nimona” based on ND Stevenson’s graphic novel.
Set in a techno-medieval world, Knight Ballister Boldheart (Riz Ahmed) is framed for a crime, and the only person who can help him prove himself innocent is the shape-shifting teen Nimona (Chloƫ Grace Moretz). The trouble is, she also might be the monster he is sworn to kill.
The project was famously setup at 20th Century Foxās Blue Sky Studios, the creators of the “Ice Age” and “Rio” franchises. The project and Blue Sky itself were then shut down by Disney despite the majority of the film being completed.
Later Annapurna Pictures and then Netflix came onboard on the film to complete and distribute it.
The story follows Nimona, a teenager with the power to shapeshift, who is targeted by a knight for assassination. The knight’s mission to kill Nimona becomes complicated when he is accused of a crime and learns that Nimona may be able to exonerate him.
Eugene Lee Yang, Frances Conroy, Lorraine Toussaint, Beck Bennett, RuPaul, Indya Moore, Julio Torres, and Sarah Sherman co-star.
Nick Bruno and Troy Quane (“Spies in Disguise”) direct from a script by Robert L. Baird and Lloyd Taylor. Roy Lee, Karen Ryan and Julie Zackary are producing. “Nimona” will release on the service on June 30th.
