Marking his first film in seven years, “Godzilla” (2014) and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” director Gareth Edwards returns with a new high-concept sci-fi feature.
Amidst a future war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, Joshua (John David Washington) is a hardened ex-special forces agent grieving the disappearance of his wife (Gemma Chan).
He is soon recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, the elusive architect of advanced AI who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war – and mankind itself.
Joshua and his team of elite operatives journey across enemy lines, into the dark heart of AI-occupied territory… only to discover the world-ending weapon he has been instructed to destroy is an AI in the form of a young child.
Ken Watanabe, Sturgill Simpson, Allison Janney and newcomer Madeleine Yuna Voyles also star in the film which revealed its first footage at CinemaCon last month to an excellent response from the crowd.
Certainly the clip shows the kind of high-quality visuals Edwards is known for whilst also creating a mashup of familiar tropes albeit with an interesting original take. “The Creator” debuts in cinemas on September 29th.
