Ubisoft is doubling down on its “Assassin’s Creed” franchise with CEO Yves Guillemot confirming on Tuesday plans to reallocate resources to work on that franchise according to VGC.
During the company’s earnings call, chief financial officer Frederick Duguet says around 2,000 developers out of a total workforce of around 20,000 are currently working on “Assassin’s Creed” titles.
Guillemot says the plan is to “increase the number of talents” working on the brand by 40% in coming years – indicating a shift to around 2,800 developers focused on that franchise (reallocations as opposed to new hires).
They’re going to be needed. There are around six “Assassin’s Creed” games in development, the first being the 9th-century Baghdad-set “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” which serves as the next single-player entry title in the series.
It is notable for having a smaller scope and more action-adventure tone with linear storytelling and stealth gameplay akin to the earliest “Assassin’s Creed” games – as opposed to the recent larger scale, more RPG-like entries in the series such as ‘Odyssey’ and ‘Valhalla’.
It’s known “Assassin’s Creed Mirage” will launch sometime before the end of March next year with scooper j0nathan recently indicating the game could launch as early as October.
Then there’s the entry codenamed ‘Red’ which is a feudal Japan-era tale, and ‘Hexe’ which deals with the witch trials during the latter days of the Holy Roman Empire. Both of these are reportedly to be released as part of the new “Assassin’s Creed Infinity” franchise hub.
There’s also a standalone multiplayer game, the China-set mobile game codenamed ‘Jade,’ and another mobile series entry with Netflix on the way.
