Nicolas Cage and Bill Skarsgard are set to star in “Lords of War,” a sequel to Andrew Niccol’s 2005 crime thriller “Lord of War” which starred Cage and Jared Leto.
Niccol will return to write and direct the sequel at Vendome Pictures, with Cage reprising his role as arms dealer Yuri Orlov. “John Wick: Chapter 4” star Skarsgard will play his son.
In the film, Orlov learns he has a son named Anton who isn’t trying to right his father’s wrongs, he’s trying to top them and launches a mercenary army to fight America’s Middle Eastern conflicts.
Niccol, who wrote “The Truman Show” screenplay and penned and directed “Gattaca,” said in a statement:
“There is so much more to explore with these characters. Plato said it best – ‘Only the dead have seen the end of war.’ I’m looking forward to spending more time in the company of the charming devil that is Yuri Orlov and now his illegitimate son – who turns out to not be legitimate in any way.”
Philippe Rousselet and Fabrice Gianfermi return as producers alongside Cage, whilst Skarsgard executive produces. Filming will kick off in the Fall.
Cage’s recent movie credits include “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” “Pig,” “The Old Way” and “Renfield”. He’ll soon be seen in “Sympathy for the Devil” and “The Retirement Plan”.
