With Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” now out in cinemas worldwide, talk has turned towards the franchise’s future and where it goes from here.
SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” ENDING
In the lead-up to the film’s release, it has long been said this will mark the final outing for this incarnation of the ‘Guardians’ with writer/director James Gunn and several actors ready to move on from their roles – most notably Zoe Saldana and Dave Bautista.
That would seem to be the case with many of the team members setting off on their own paths at the end – the doors open for them to return if they ever wanted to, but it could well be the last time we’ll see some of these characters.
The mid and post-credits scenes however focus more on those who will likely make a return. This includes a new ‘Guardians’ team led by Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and consisting of Groot (Vin Diesel), Kraglin (Sean Gunn), Adam Warlock (Will Poulter), Cosmo the Spacedog (Maria Bakalova) and Phyla-Vell (Kai Zen).
Whilst in the film Phyla-Vell is just a young girl with powers. In the comics, she’s the daughter of Captain Marvel and has been the superhero herself at one point. This suggests there are potential plans for her in the future.
The post-credits scene sees Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill/Star-Lord, having now settled down to a mundane life on Earth. However, a title cast appears saying, “The legendary Star-Lord will return”, which suggests some plan is already in place. Presumably, we’ll see him as part of some new Marvel team-up film somewhere down the line. Either way, the MCU seems far from done with Pratt.
