Paramount+ will team with Paramount Television Studios for a live-action TV series adaptation of the 1999 cult favorite sci-fi comedy “Galaxy Quest”.
The project is in the early development stages with a writer currently being sought to work with Mark Johnson (“Breaking Bad”), who executive produced the film and returns for the series through his Gran Via Productions label.
Paramount TV Studios attempted to develop a new TV take on the property in 2015. That was sold to Amazon and had the film’s writer Robert Gordon attached to pen the script whilst director Dean Parisot also returned.
That version stalled in development, the passing of Alan Rickman and Allen’s busy schedule also impacting its chances to move forward. After several years of laying dormant, it is now coming back albeit with a whole new interpretation.
Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell and Alan Rickman starred in the original film, which followed the cast of a “Star Trek”-style TV series that were now washed-up has-beens.
An alien race, who saw the show and mistook it for being a documentary, captures them and enlists their help in fighting a race of alien warriors.
