Mischa Barton Joins “Neighbours” Revival

In an unexpected pairing, former “The O.C.” alum Mischa Barton will guest star in the revival of the long-running Australian soap “Neighbours” coming to Amazon Freevee.

Barton will guest star in the new season as Reece, described as “an American new to Erinsborough who is not quite who she appears to be”.

After nearly four decades on screens, “Neighbours” was officially and abruptly cancelled early last year with the feature-length final episode in late July seeing the return of the likes of Kylie Minogue and Guy Pearce.

Then in November, Amazon announced it would resurrect the series with the revitalised version to premiere exclusively on the free Amazon Freevee service in the UK and US, and through Amazon Prime Video in Australia and New Zealand seven days after the free-to-air viewing on its old home of Channel 10.

Since then, quite a few (but far from all) of the regulars at the time of the show’s end have signed on, and production kicked off yesterday at the show’s old studio home with Fremantle producing.

Jason Herbison, who has been an executive producer on the series since 2013, says: “With ‘Neighbours’ launching on Amazon Freevee in North America, we are beyond excited to have an actor of Mischa’s calibre join us for the beginning of this exciting new chapter. Mischa’s character is dynamic and unpredictable and will have an instant presence on Ramsay Street. Our loyal viewers are going to love her, locally and abroad.”

The first episodes are expected to debut this Fall in the U.S. and U.K., with previous seasons and specific well-known episodes currently available to stream on Freevee.
