Shaw Could Return For “Star Trek: Legacy”

Paramount Pictures

Current “Star Trek: Picard” showrunner Terry Matalas confirms that Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick), one of the breakout characters of the celebrated third season which wraps this week, could appear in the proposed spinoff series “Star Trek: Legacy”.

SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “PICARD” Season 3, Episode 9

Stashwick’s Shaw started out almost an antagonist, an obstruction that keeps coming up in Picard’s way and a hostile, even petty character. As the season progressed he has become more filled out, more details of his back story were revealed and his tone softened.

He also, however, dies a heroic death in the ninth episode of the season – seemingly cutting off any possibility of his return. In an interview with Screen Rant however, Matalas confirms Shaw could still appear in the new series.

How? That’s not so clear, but “Star Trek” has certainly resurrected dead characters before:

“This was always Shaw’s journey. But should there ever be a spin-off – and let me be clear, THERE IS NOTHING IN DEVELOPMENT AT PARAMOUNT – but should one day the stars align, there was a plan from Day One for Todd as Shaw to be a part of it.

How, you ask? It’s AMAZING. And that’s all I will say. And every time Todd and I talk about it, we get chills. And no, it is not a cop-out. It’s kinda incredible and moving and fresh, and I hope one day we get to do it.”

The finale of the current season of “Picard” will be released this week on Amazon Prime.
