The full cast has been set for “Knuckles,” the live-action TV series spin-off following the Idris Elba-voiced take on the character seen in the “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” movie.
First announced in February last year, Elba reprises his role of Knuckles and will be joined by “Happy Endings” alum Adam Pally reprising his role of Wade Whipple from the films.
The show’s events take place between the second and upcoming third film (due out Christmas 2024), and sees Knuckles agreeing to train Wade as his protege and teach him the ways of the Echidna warrior.
Edi Patterson (“The Righteous Gemstones”), Julian Barratt (“Mindhorn”), Scott Mescudi (“Don’t Look Up”), and Ellie Taylor (“Ted Lasso”) will recur in the series, whilst Rory McCann (“Game of Thrones”) guest stars. In addition, Tika Sumpter will reprise her role as Maddie from the films. Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Production on the series is now underway in London, with John Whittington serving as head writer and executive producer on the series. Brian Schacter and James Madejski are also writers.
Jeff Fowler will direct the pilot episode and executive produce the series. Elba, Neal H. Moritz, Toru Nakahara and Toby Ascher executive produce.
Ged Wright, Brandon Trost, Jorma Taccone, and Carol Banker are directing episodes with Jeff Fowler handling the pilot.
The two “Sonic the Hedgehog” films have earned over $405 million at the global box office.
